There is a quite intense debate about President Donald Trump on ABC's "The View" this week. After Sunny Hostin lambasted the POTUS for letting the people die in Puerto Rico on Wednesday, September 12, Abby Huntsman came to the Head of State's defense on Thursday, September 13.
As Hurricane Florence is fast approaching the southeastern U.S., Trump is continuously bragging his administration is now preparing for any emergencies. He even proudly saying he successfully handled the same situation in Puerto Rico, contradicting the reports that almost 3,000 Puerto Ricans died after the storm hit the country in 2017.
Hunstman criticized Trump's remarks. She even said he was "indefensible," "out of touch," and even likened him to George W. Bush and how he handled the repercussion of Hurricane Katrina, per Mediaite.
Hostin, on the other hand, also slammed Trump and cited the reports that the government took $10 million from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to give it to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
"It's humiliating, it's embarrassing for our country, and I don't think this president cares," he said. He then advised everyone who could be affected by Hurricane Florence to evacuate after Trump described his response to the same disaster that left 3,000 people dead was a success. He continuously condemned the administration for not doing anything to prevent the number of deaths from growing after the storm.
The ladies from "The View" also supported Hostin's claim and questioned if Trump even cared for the number of casualties in Puerto Rico. The hosts all agreed the President of the United States did not do much to convince the Puerto Ricans that he purely sympathized with them. However, they were all left stunned when Hostin bravely disparaged the POTUS and his government.
Meanwhile, the next day, Huntsman surprisingly came to Trump's defense. According to Splinter, the former Fox News commentator, who is also the daughter of Republican presidential candidate and current U.S. Ambassador to Russia Jon Huntsman, said he should not be the only one to blame for what happened in Puerto Rico.
Trump claimed the Democrats manipulate the number of the death toll in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria hit the country to make him look bad. "I don't think president Trump is solely to blame for what happened," Huntsman said. She then explained the country had a lot of problems before the storm came.
Huntsman mentioned Puerto Rico filed for bankruptcy and its "power grid was in chaos." She also contradicted Hostin's remarks after he compared Trump to a dictator. "I don't think that's fair to compare [president Trump] to a dictator," she said.
