'The Durrells' Season 4 To Feature Time Jump, Dark Theme
The Durrells Season 4 will be the last time fans are about to see their favorite on-screen family on the small screen. The show is about to end this season, and things will be surely different with a time jump and an alleged dark turn.
The previous season was set in 1937. So, The Durrells Season 4 will be featuring a two-year time jump as it will take fans to 1939. Keeley Hawes, who plays Louisa Durrell, revealed things would be dark in the new season as the family's life on Corfu would get interrupted by the outbreak of World War II.
"It gets a little bit dark for the Durrells, which has always been a light and lovely show," Hawes told the Radio Times about The Durrells Season 4. "The war is approaching, and they have to deal with that."
Fans will also see how Louisa and Spiro Halikiopoulos's (Alexis Georgoulis) friends will survive in The Durrells Season 4 after they admitted their feelings for each other. Hawes mentioned something about their relationship next season, but she chose to stay mum about it and asked fans to watch what will happen at the end of the series.
Hawes even teased The Durrells Season 4 would be "best" of the series. Given that it would be the last installment, every important scene would be featured here. She is even excited for fans to see what they have to offer for the last time.
The show's main cast is expected to return to The Durrells Season 4. Led by Hawes, Josh O'Connor will also come back as Larry, Daisy Waterstone as Margo, Callum Woodhouse as Leslie Durrell, and Milo Parker as Gerry Durrell. Of course, fans will also see the appearance of the Greek actor Georgoulis as the taxi driver/lover Spiro.
ITV has yet to announce The Durrells Season 4's release date, but it is expected to return in the spring of 2019. As its three previous seasons aired in March and April, the new season might take the same schedule.
The network has ordered for the new episodes of The Durrells Season 4 for quite a while now. Executive producer Simon Nye expressed his desire to continue writing the family's adventures. "The viewing figures have been pretty good, and there's been a lot of love for the show," he said. But, the new season will be the clan's final outing.
