‘GTA 6’ Will Be Set in America, Developer Says
Fans of the "Grand Theft Auto" franchise are waiting for GTA 6, the next installment to the popular game series. While there's no official announcement regarding the highly anticipated title, news reports show that there's some development over at Rockstar Games, and that's something worth looking at.
Recently, Rockstar put up a job posting for what appears to be a project for next-generation consoles, Game Rant reported. The job posting is for a Senior Environment Artist for Rockstar India, and successful applicants will join the developers to "create next-generation worlds for some exciting upcoming projects."
Rockstar has just released "Red Dead Redemption 2 a few months ago, which means the posting isn't for that game. RDR2 already features the largest map ever in any Rockstar Games title, and if the job listing is any indication, an even bigger, more ambitious map will be rolling out sooner or later.
This brings us to the rumors circulating about GTA 6. Although some are speculating that the unannounced yet believed to be upcoming title will be making a return to the U.K., it's more likely that the game will be set in the U.S., and there are some clues pointing to this.
Home Sweet Home
GTA co-writer Dan Houser, speaking with The Guardian at the time of GTA 5's release in 2013, said GTA London was "cool" for its time. He said he would love to have a game set in the U.K., but that game wouldn't be GTA.
"GTA is America," he said at the time.
Houser's words should silence all rumors that GTA 6 would be set somewhere outside where the franchise began in 1997 -- Liberty City, Vice City, and San Andreas, fictionalized versions of New York City, Miami, and San Francisco.
Now, we go to some rumors speculating where GTA 6 could be taking place. First, there are rumors of a return to Vice City.GTA: Vice City was a successful game, and some believe that GTA 6 might take revisit that place.
Second, some believe that the next title will involve some traveling between Vice City and locations in South America. This is more reasonable than the first, considering that Vice City was already featured, and GTA 6 will need a map larger than that.
Lastly, there are rumors of a very huge map comprised of the whole of America, although some think that this will require a lot of in-game travel time. This last rumor is more believable, considering the job posting Rockstar made for developers in India.
To date, Rockstar hasn't officially announced GTA 6 yet. Stay tuned for updates as they come.
