'Manifest' Season 2 Details: What To Expect When Show Returns

The first season of Manifest ended with a big reveal on NBC, and this has laid the groundwork for potential stories that may be explored until the sixth season. Showrunner Jeff Rake rounded up what viewers may expect in Manifest season 2, but the bigger question is -- will NBC renew the series?

Rake said in an interview with TV Guide that the survivors of Flight 828 might have a death clock ticking over their heads. Ben (played by Josh Dallas) and Olive (played by Luna Bliase) realized in the season finale that their time could be up in 5 1/2 years.

However, this expiration date might not be set in stone. Moving forward in Manifest season 2, Rake said that Ben and the rest of the survivors would have to "figure out if there are ways that they can confirm this theory" as well as find out if there is a workaround against it. A lot of their actions and behavior will be driven by this theory in the upcoming season.

But some survivors will take the news about their shortened lifespan differently than others. Basically, Manifest season 2 will show two factions -- the believers and the deniers. It will be the deniers who will learn to seize the day and live as if every day is their last.

Rake also confirmed that the gun that went off between Zeke (played by Matt Long) and Jared (played by J.R. Ramirez) in the finale, before everything went to black, did hit someone. "We'll come to discover that it found a target and there will be consequences at the top of the next season and consequences that will be long-lasting," the showrunner said.

Meanwhile, TV Line reported that the renewal of Manifest season 2 might not be a long shot on NBC since the last few episodes from season 1 picked up in the ratings. The show sits comfortably on the second spot of NBC's best drama series, and it's tied with other favorites like Chicago Med and Chicago Fire in the ratings. Incidentally, both Chicago shows have already been renewed on the network.

Manifest is also the fifth most watched show on NBC and way on top of the popularity pole than another freshman series, New Amsterdam. Since the latter has been confirmed for a second season, fans are hopeful NBC will finally confirm Manifest season 2 in the coming weeks.
