The Line of Duty Season 5 will be hitting the small screens soon, and things seem to become more intense. BBC has been dropping several trailers for the series, hinting the arrest of Superintendent Ted Hastings (Adrian Dunbar), and the introduction of the Balaclava Man.

There are clues that suggest Hastings has something to do with the Line of Duty Season 5's new case and he will get investigated, per Express.co.uk. In the trailer dropped in December 2018, Detective Sergeant Steve Arnott (Martin Compston) revealed some details of their new assignment about the corrupt senior officer.

In a conversation, Detective Sergeant Kate Fleming (Vicky McClure) said it is their chance to learn the link between corrupt officers and organized crime. However, as the investigation rolls on Line of Duty Season 5, Hastings seems alarmed by it.

In another Line of Duty Season 5 clip revealed in February, Hastings confirmed his position on the investigation. "AC-12 is being met with an institutional cover-up. We'll get to the root of this," he said, which Fleming heard. "The root being what sir?" she asked. From the looks of it, Hastings knows a lot about the case they are investigating; only that he doesn't tell his team.

In other Line of Duty Season 5 events, the show's official Twitter account dropped another teaser that showed Balaclava Man. Here, he could be seen telling his team to rush up as a group of armed men was being surrounded by police cars.

Pop Sugar reported the This is England star Stephen Graham will play the role of John "Balaclava Man" Corbett on Line of Duty Season 5, along with Rochenda Sandall as Lisa McQueen. The two play important roles in the "deadly organized crime group," and known for having a connection with corrupt police officers. They are also being suspected of being under the direct command of the mysterious character H.

Corbett and McQueen become AC-12's persons of interest after an "explosive chain of events" on Line of Duty Season 5. Although the said events are yet to be revealed, it might have a connection with the previous season finale, where AC-12's three key officers saw a huge collection of evidence that linked to the previous seasons' occurrences. These things are said to have a connection with Balaclava's criminal gang.

BBC has yet to announce Line of Duty Season 5's release date, but it is expected to be out this spring. In an interview on Lorraine in December 2018, Martin Compston, who plays the role of Steve Arnott, revealed the show might be out in April.
