'All American' Season 2 Renewal, Netflix Release Date Details Unveiled
All American premiered on television via The CW last October 2018. The show based on the life of Spencer Paysinger, a professional football player, has also started streaming on Netflix last March.
Ratings for All American on The CW was less than impressive, but it is getting a bigger and much-needed boost on the streaming platform. Hence, viewers have been eager to know when All American season 2 could premiere. Unfortunately, The CW has not yet announced the show's return.
But The CW is expected to make an announcement about All American in the coming weeks as networks are supposed to present their line up for the 2019-2020 TV slate. The network's president Mark Pedowitz, however, told the press last January that they feel positive about the series.
"We are extremely proud of that show," Pedowitz said via TV Line. "We're going to sit down in May and determine the wants and the needs are about that moment. It's positive. It's a show I'm proud to support."
All American is also getting positive reviews online. Some critics call the show a hybrid of dramas like Friday Night Lights and The OC. While it is about a football hero, All American is also a drama about family and friendships.
The show, created by April Blair under Greg Berlanti's production, delves on a budding high school football star named Spencer James (played by Daniel Ezra) who has dreams of becoming a pro. The story takes viewers to a South Crenshaw high school, where a football coach recruits Spencer for his team in a Beverly Hills high school.
Spencer enters the new school as a scholar, and immediately, he struggles to belong in this new world. However, he shines on the football field and shows a lot of potentials to make it in the big leagues. If All American were to get a second season, it would likely focus on Spencer's college years.
All American also stars Taye Diggs, Bre-Z, Greta Onieogou, Samantha Logan, Michael Evans Behling, Cody Christian, Karimah Westbrook, Monet Mazur. It's unclear, however, if these actors will be signed for the second season pending a renewal.
Meanwhile, the show's inspiration retired from football in 2018. Paysinger played for the New York Giants, the Miami Dolphins, and the Carolina Panthers. He admitted, however, that he had dreams of becoming a screenwriter and planned to quit the NFL at 30 years old, as per ESPN.
He has been developing All American since 2015, and The CW made it happen by tapping Blair to create the series. Paysinger may often be seen in some of the scenes at the football field as one of the coaches. He's also sitting at the writers' room to discuss the storylines and is, in fact, happy to be cut off the NFL to pursue this new chapter in his life.
