'New Amsterdam' Season 1 Spoiler Hints Max And Helen May Pursue A Romance
Dr. Max Goodwin (played by Ryan Eggold) and Dr. Hana Sharpe (played by Freema Agyeman) no longer have this patient-doctor connection. The big change in their relationship will be highlighted in New Amsterdam season 1 episode 18, which airs on Tuesday, April 16, but could a romance be blooming too?
According to the episode synopsis of New Amsterdam season 1 episode 18, Hana will take a big step in her personal life. If she has dropped Max as her patient, could she also be distancing herself from him as his friend, confidante and potential romantic partner?
It got too close and too complicated for Max and Hana in the previous episodes of New Amsterdam that the latter decided she should let Max go as her patient. Their dynamic has been impacted by the fact that Max wanted to have it all and thus demanded a lot from his cancer doctor, who is also his close friend and his deputy.
After Hana refused to be Max's oncologist any further, however, fans believe that this would open doors for Max to pursue Hana romantically. But how could that happen if he's married and expecting a baby on the way and Hana has a boyfriend?
The chemistry between Max and Hana is undeniable. Even the executive producers of New Amsterdam have acknowledged this multi-faceted relationship in an interview with TV Line.
"We knew that Max and his oncologist were going to be tightly interwoven throughout the season," showrunner David Shulner said. "We know they're great together, and we know how important they are to each other, so we wanted to play with the audience's expectations of where that's going - or not going."
The most recent episode of New Amsterdam seemed to be a foreshadowing of things to come for this duo. But as Cinema Blend pointed out, whatever romantic hints the show has been throwing its audience about Max and Helen won't happen unless Max becomes single.
Curiously, a spoiler report from TV Line revealed that the finale episode of New Amsterdam would be titled "Luna," to refer to the baby of Max and his wife Georgia (played by Lisa O'Hare). Shulner said that they had established the complications of Georgia's pregnancy in the pilot episode and he also confirmed that the delivery would have some problems. Could this be a hint of Georgia dying in the season finale leaving Max as a single dad?
There are four more episodes left to air for New Amsterdam after this week's installment. NBC has also renewed the show for season 2.
