Most celebrities expand their brand and don’t usually limit themselves in one platform. Singers try acting, actors do modeling, and vice versa.

But the most common transformation is from being an actor to working behind the camera. With Gong Yoo being in the industry for almost two decades, is he now ready to switch places with the K-drama team?

Gong Yoo is best known for his roles in television dramas Coffee Prince (2007) and Guardian: The Lonely and Great God (2016–2017), and the films Silenced (2011), Train to Busan (2016), and The Age of Shadows (2016).

It's no secret that all of his films and dramas are very well received by fans. They were highly successful, catapulting the 39-year-old actor to superstardom.

With that said, many were curious with how Gong Yoo managed to be a part of some of the most-watched films and dramas in South Korea history. So when the actor graced the cover of the February issue of Harper’s Bazaar, he revealed how he chose his acting projects.

Gong Yoo said:

“I don’t really follow a fixed plan. When I choose a project, my decision strongly reflects my emotions at the time. I don’t want to remain in an obvious, stereotypical place [as an actor], and I want to keep moving.”

Although the interview focused more on how he chooses his projects, the Goblin actor did mention something very interesting.

He noted:

“When I choose a project, one of my biggest concerns is whether it’ll be something new and different for me. Because even though I don’t write screenplays and don’t direct [films or dramas], I do creative work and participate in creating a production as a member of the cast.”

Gong Yoo’s revelation clearly shows that he is also interested in the creative process of his films and dramas. He has a lot of knowledge about the industry given the success of his previous works, so even though he didn’t confirm that he will be doing behind-the-camera works shortly, it is certainly not far from happening.

Gong Yoo had already done jobs outside acting like modeling and being a product endorser. However, it is quite clear that Gong Yoo's passion will always be acting.

After the success of Goblin, Gong Yoo will be starring in the film adaptation of the best-selling novel Kim Ji Young, Born in ’82, and the upcoming action thriller Seo Bok.
