9-1-1 season 3 is gearing up for its return in the fall, and the writers will be trooping back to work to start developing the new stories. Showrunner Tim Minear confirmed that every major cast member would be back next season with new faces potentially joining the mix.

"We're back in the writers' room, and then we'll start shooting probably in mid or late July," Minear told Entertainment Tonight. "I hesitate to tease new faces because deals aren't in place, but in the writers' room, we've been talking about bringing back some faces that you've seen and incorporating them into some stories."

The showrunner also teased that Buck (played by Oliver Stark) will have the most challenging story arc of all the main characters of 9-1-1 season 3. He told The Wrap that Buck's future as a rescuer is in serious jeopardy because of his injury.

9-1-1 season 3 will show Buck having an existential crisis since there's no other life he knows except to be a firefighter and a rescuer. The third season will depict how Buck will overcome these challenges. Minear said it would be a good thing for the actor's fans because this means there will be more screen time for him.

Minear also said that they would be exploring scenes with Ryan Guzman (as Eddie) demonstrating his MMA training. They were planning on introducing this in 9-1-1 season 2, but the actor injured his knee and had to shoot scenes where he could barely walk.

As for Chimney (played by Kenneth Choi) and Maddie (played by Jennifer Love Hewitt), their story wrapped up on a positive note in 9-1-1 season 2. Minear assured fans of the show that this new relationship looks intact going into the third season.

Bobby (played by Peter Krause) and Athena (played by Angela Basset), on the other hand, will have problems in their marriage as a blended family. However, this couple will sail through these issues together in 9-1-1 season 3, as per The Wrap.

Minear also hinted that co-writer Kristen Reidel had pitched a fantastic storyline for Athena in the third season. The showrunner said that he's eager to get started on writing this.

9-1-1 is one of FOX's highest rated shows. The series averages seven million viewers a week during the live airing, and it also enjoys a strong following on social media.
