'Game of Thrones Season 8' Theories Suggest Varys' Ring May Have Important Part In Daenerys' Death
Game of Thrones Season 8 is about to come to completion and fans strongly believe Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) is about to meet her demise. The Mother of Dragons turns into a Mad Queen in Episode 5, "The Bells," and someone has to stop her madness. As there are theories Jon Snow (Kit Harington) may kill her to fully become the Azor Ahai or Arya (Maisie Williams) to fulfill the green-eye prophecy, Varys (Conleth Hill) may have something to do with her death using the ring he removed before he died.
Episode 5 opened with Varys writing letters about Jon's real identity. He knew it would cost him his life if Daenerys learned his plan, but he was desperate to do everything to stop the Khaleesi from reining the Seven Kingdoms and let the Warden of the North take the Iron Throne as the truthful heir.
Varys knew Grey Worm (Jacob Anderson), and his soldiers would come for him. So, he prepared himself, burnt the last letter he was writing, removed his jewelry - particularly a ring - and put it in a chalice. As the camera lingers on that scene, there are theories the ring may play an important part in Game of Thrones Season 8 Finale.
According to Den of Geek, the ring may be important for Varys' spy, Martha. The ring may be a signal for his spies to continue his plans. They may look for Varys' letters and send it out to every Lord in the Seven Kingdoms to spread the word about Jon's real identity as the true heir of the Iron Throne, being the son of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen.
There are also theories Varys was trying to poison Daenerys. In his scene in Episode 5, he asked Martha if "she" had eaten. "She won't eat," the spy responded. Fans assumed the "she" they were about was Daenerys, and they were planning to put poison in her food to stop her from burning the King's Landing in Game of Thrones Season 8.
As they didn't succeed, Martha might continue Varys' will by using the ring he left in the chalice. The Independent reported the ring might be holding the same poison that Olenna Tyrell (Diana Rigg) hid on one of the crystals of Sansa's (Sophie Turner) necklace that she used to kill Joffrey (Jack Gleeson).
Varys was known for being close to Olenna so it could be possible he was about to do the same thing the House Tyrell's matriarch did. Martha might perform the deed, but there are also beliefs that Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) would do it. Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 6, the final episode, will be out on May 19, Sunday, at 9 p.m. on HBO.
