'Siren' Season 3: Freeform Renews Show Ahead Of Season 2 Part 2's Release
Freeform announced the coming of Siren Season 3 at the recent Walt Disney Television Upfront Presentation, including the reboot of its three other shows. The network also gave viewers a glimpse of the first footage of Motherland: Fort Salem, Everything's Gonna Be Okay, and its Party of Five.
"Freeform is built on one very powerful belief: that embracing the disruptive voices and diverse identities of our viewers is key to our ongoing success," Freeform president Tom Ascheim said, via The Hollywood Reporter. "We are so proud to have the opportunity to grow with our audience and are looking forward to continuing to push the boundaries of convention through our programming - this year and in years to come."
Freeform ordered for Siren Season 3 ahead of Season 2 Part 2's release on June 13. The early renewal is no surprise as the show is said to be the network's number one series among adults 18-49 and women 18-49.
Siren Season 3 will continue to follow the story of Ryn Fisher (Eline Powell), a mysterious woman who happens to be a mermaid. She comes to the land to look for her sister, who has been accidentally captured by a fisherman.
In Siren Season 2, the attack on an oil rig causes deadly consequences that force the mermaids to return to the sea. Helen (Rena Owen) then learns that she is not the only merfolk in the land. However, the event also unveils the darkness surrounding the merfolk.
Aside from Powell, the show also stars Alex Roe, Fola Evans-Akingbola, and Ian Verdun. The three may reprise their roles as Ben, Maddie, and Ian, respectively, in Siren Season 3. Eric Wald and Emily Whitesell may also be back as showrunners, per Variety.
Siren is based on a story by co-writers Eric Wald and Dean White. It is set in the coastal town of Bristol Covel, known in the legend as the ancient home of mermaids. However, the legend part has been changed to inject a touch of reality with the coming of Ryn in the small fishing town.
Ben and Maddie will be uncertain of the mermaid's future in Siren Season 2. After the deadly aftermath of the oil rig attack the mermaid's return to the sea, they will feel lost without Ryn.
Aside from the announcement of Siren Season 3, Ascheim also revealed Freeform would air the repeat episodes of the 30 seasons of The Simpsons in September. The network also unveiled its plans for its "holiday-themed programming."
Siren Season 2 Part 2 will air on June 13 at 8 p.m. on Freeform. Siren Season 3, on the other hand, may be out in 2020.
