Song Joong Ki, Song Hye Kyo: 'DOTS' Actor's New Show Fails To Meet Expectations, Actress Focuses On New Projects
Many fans were thrilled to see Song Joong Ki again in the small screens after several months of hiatus from the glitz and glamor of the entertainment industry. The husband of Song Hye Kyo is playing the character of Eun Som in tvN's newest drama series titled Arthdal Chronicles. However, new reports suggested that the show failed to meet the expectations of both viewers and investors.
For starters, Arthdal Chronicles centers on the story of the citizens of the magical kingdom of Arthdal. It narrates the journey of the inhabitants of the ancient city and its surrounding regions in building a new society. The new show, which stars Song Joong Ki, Jang Dong Gun, Kim Ji Won, and Kim Ok Vin premiered on tvN and Netflix on June 1, 2019.
Most followers of Song Hye Kyo's husband expected that Arthdal Chronicles would be the South Korean version of HBO's Game of Thrones. Unfortunately, that is not the case. Despite its star-studded cast, which include Hallyu superstar Song Joong Ki, Korea Exchanged revealed that Studio Dragon's share price closed to 66.900 won on Monday - two days after the newest tvN series' premiere.
"It has been one of the most anticipated TV shows of the year with its star-studded cast and huge production budget," Lee Hyo Jin said about Song Joong Ki's newest series. "However, these do not guarantee higher viewer ratings. We need to see further whether its ratings improve as the show continues," the Meritz Securities researcher went on.
An unnamed industry insider told AllKpop that the drop in Studio Dragon's share price, clearly, suggested that many were not happy with the first two episodes of Arthdal Chronicles. "Arthdal Chronicles creates an imaginary world. Entire scenes require complex CG effects. This is something Korean production has never attempted for a TV show before," the same source added.
Meanwhile, aside from Song Joong Ki, Song Hye Kyo is at it again after she teased her latest collaboration with renowned Parisian Jewellery Maison Chaument. The Encounter star was tapped to become the brand's official ambassador in the Asia-Pacific region. Hye Kyo revealed, when asked about her personal preference when it comes to jewellery, that she loves dresses "casually" as she likes "simple clothes and style."
"I prefer smaller earrings with details on them [when I'm dressed casually]," Song Hye Kyo stated. "Today, however, I'm shooting an advertisement and am happy to have the opportunity to wear large, sparkling, and beautiful pieces," Song Joong Ki's wife added.
Hye Kyo is set to appear on an upcoming new KBS series called Hyena with Joo Ji Hoon. The Full House actress is said to play the role of a lawyer named Jung Geun Ja while Ji Hoon will portray as arrogant lawyer Yoo Hae Jae.
