Priyanka Chopra: Duchess' Long-Time Friend Defends Meghan Markle, Blames Racism For Criticisms After Becoming Royal
Earlier this week, Indian actress, Priyanka Chopra sat down in an interview with The Sunday Times. But while everything may seem so normal, things got even more interesting when she talked about her close friend, Meghan Markle, who is now referred to as the Duchess of Sussex.
It is very much obvious in recent times that Meghan Markle has become the face of many tabloids and criticisms after becoming a royalty. For some reason, her relationship with Prince Harry has become the talk of the town ever since the two first dated in 2016.
But for Priyanka Chopra, the most obvious reason behind is racism. According to the newly married actress, racism has become the main point why Meghan Markle has been facing a lot of criticisms from the media. She also went on explaining that she has seen it, and she felt unfortunate for her friend.
Even so, Priyanka, being a good friend to the Duchess of Sussex, claimed that Meghan would certainly handle all of these things. And even more, today that she is now a mother.
Meghan Markle is currently taking maternity leave. But while she is enjoying the "peace and privacy" behind the doors of her new home at Frogmore Cottage, the reports and criticisms about her continue to spiral in recent times.
Luckily, she has friends all over the industry who truly knows her. And one of which is Priyanka Chopra. She and Priyanka met in January of 2016 during the Elle Women in Television Dinner. And after the said event, the two stars eventually became close friends.
As it appears, their closeness had become so much more apparent when Priyanka Chopra attended the Royal Wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in 2018 after the now-Duchess invited her. So, it only goes to show that the two have been spending a lot of time together before Meghan became a part of the Royal family.
Aside from defending her friend, Meghan Markle, Priyanka Chopra also talked about racism in her perspective. And based on her shared stories during the interview, she revealed that she has experienced being discriminated as well way back in her schooling years.
Being an Indian with brown skin in a foreign country is not easy. And migrating to the United States has proven her that she was treated differently due to her skin color. She also shared that she was called names that made her High School years difficult. Accordingly, she went on to explain that she knows how racism goes.
