The Handmaid's Tale season 3 episode 5 suggests that danger may be up ahead for baby Nichole and Luke (played by O-T Fagbele). The Gilead's Eyes are set on these two even while they are supposed to be safe in Canada.
A teaser for The Handmaid's Tale season 3 episode 5 shows that June (played by Elisabeth Moss), Serena Joy (played by Yvonne Strahovski), Commander Waterford (played by Joseph Fiennes) and Commander Lawrence (Bradley Whitford) meeting anew. Waterford tells June that he would like to arrange a visit to Canada to see Nichole, while Serena echoes the plea by saying that they would like to say goodbye to their baby.
In The Handmaid's Tale season 2 finale, June was successful in bringing Nichole out of Gilead and into Canada through Emily (played by Alexis Bledel). Betraying Commander Waterford, she and Serena conspired to do this to ensure that the baby girl could live in a world where there are no restrictions.
However, June learned in The Handmaid's Tale season 3 episode 4, which aired the previous week on Hulu, that her husband Luke and Nichole have been bonded as she would have expected. But then, Luke has been bringing Nichole to protests rallies against the Gilead, which was where the Eyes figured out the whereabouts of Commander Waterford's baby.
In the upcoming episode, June asked the people she was meeting with if her husband would be safe if she agreed to the Waterford meeting the baby. However, Lawrence replied that everyone involved in their situation is already in grave danger, including Luke.
The meeting that's about to happen in The Handmaid's Tale season 3 episode 5 will be the second face-off between Commander Waterford and Luke, per Elite Daily. Will the Waterford be able to take Nichole away from Luke or will Luke get to fiercely protect her? Who will risk everything for this child?
The Handmaid's Tale executive producer Warren Littlefield posted on Twitter that episode 5 is his favorite this season. This airs on Hulu on Wednesday, June 19.
"It has a wonderful connection with June and Luke, and there's more than one moment where I just go to tears in the episode," Littlefield said. "There's beautiful photography, some spectacular performances, and you need some Kleenex to get through the episode. But I love it."
