It’s LA Lakers Or NY Teams For Kyrie Irving Following Reports Of ‘Celtics Ghosting’
Kyrie Irving is currently unreachable, a new report said, indicating too that communication between the All-Star and the Boston Celtics was effectively non-existent in the past weeks. This came as Irving was supposedly set to meet with the Boston front office this week to discuss his free agency plans.
Irving has declined his player option with the Greens worth $21.3 million, making him the hottest free agent in the market. According to Yahoo Sports, efforts have been made to reach out with the former Cavs, but it looked like he went dark as far as the Celtics are concerned.
"The strangest part of the Irving situation right now is that it appears he has essentially ghosted on the Celtics. The people within the organization I have spoken with have made it clear that they have had little, if any, communication with Irving in recent weeks," the report quoted Adam Himmelsbach of the Boston Globe as saying.
Ghosting is nothing new to Irving as he employed the same tactic prior to his departure from the Cleveland Cavaliers. Yahoo said the point guard cut off all communications to management and co-players leading to his joining the Celtics for Season 2018-19.
With the latest development, it is assumed that the scheduled meeting between Boston and Irving will not push through as the latter appears to have made up his mind on moving to a new team. The meet anyway is mere confirmation on Celtic's part that Irving has no plans of returning.
According to Bleacher Report, the meeting was originally arranged "look for clarity ahead of the start of free agency on June 30." With things crystal clear for both parties now, the next logical step for Irving is to determine his destination for next season.
If rumors are to be believed, that destination has to be the Brooklyn Nets, a team that the report said strongly interests Irving. Before his NBA days, Irving lived in New Jersey, where the Nets were formerly based, and rooted for the team.
Another NY team is on Irving's radar, the New York Knicks. Speculations are rife Irving is visualizing a stint with the team, and his desire fired up by the possibility of playing alongside Kevin Durant. But with Durant confirmed out of action for Season 2019-20, Irving has to look elsewhere.
The best option, for now, seems the Los Angeles Lakers, which will soon welcome Anthony Davis to be paired with LeBron James. Irving becoming the team's third All-Star is certainly tempting, especially now that the Lakers suddenly become a strong title contender.
