In 2020, Apple will release two iPhones that will support 5G according to various predictions. But, it will take a few years more before the Cupertino based tech titan really invades the high-speed space of smartphones. While Apple is yet to announce its lineup of iPhones this year, something is going to happen in a few months' time according to a recent report.

The report reveals that the lineup of Apple iPhones for 2020 will be more interesting as a promise of 5G technology is in tow. Rumors and speculations claim that for the first time ever, Apple will release its smartphones with 5G, choosing a more patient approach than its Android-powered competitors. Additionally, Apple is believed to wait for the proliferation if the network coverage and for the technology to mature before finally releasing their devices equipped with the said technology.

The report also claims that the Cupertino-based tech giant's 5G technology will be sourced from Qualcomm after Intel closed its 5G modem for smartphones. The patent dispute that Apple and Qualcomm have long been working out is already settled. In April, it appears that both companies have already inked a new deal that will result in Apple devices housing Qualcomm silicon inside.

Three iPhone Models

In 2020, the public can expect three iPhone models according to Ming-Chi Kuo, as revealed in the research note shared to investors. Of these three iPhones, only two will have 5G technology. These two 5G-integrated models will have 6.7-inch and 5.4-inch displays. Additionally, these will be the second-generation successors of iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max.

The third iPhone will be the same as the iPhone XR and will sport a .1-inch display. This is the device that will not have the 5G technology. Aside from these, the report says that the three upcoming 2020 iPhones will have OLED panels, which consumers could see as early as 2019 for Apple's iPhone refresh.

Apple 5G Modems In Development

Another interesting news is the possibility of Apple creating its own 5G chips. As mentioned above, there are claims that the Cupertino tech giant will partner with Qualcomm for its 5G baseband. But, there are also reports that Apple is working on its own modem technology, which is slated to surface in 2020.

Additionally, the Cupertino-based tech titan is working with Broadcom according to the analyst, and the Qualcomm's versions are being reserved in case the process becomes tricky than expected. Overall, Apple is expected to launch its own 5G baseband chip through in-house development similar to what it did with its A-series app processors. And, three iPhones are coming out in 2020, two of which are integrated with 5G technology.
