Details about the yet-to-be-confirmed Sherlock Season 5 remain scarce up to this writing. Many fans have been waiting for the fifth installment of the popular British crime drama television series. But, will Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman, and the rest of the squad return?

If only Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman were to ask about the fate of the series, the duo said they wanted to reprise their roles as Detective Sherlock Holmes and John H. Watson, respectively. BBC has not yet revealed whether or not Sherlock Season 5 is still happening. Despite this, Benedict and Martin expressed their interest to return for another run.

Rumors about the cancellation of the show sparked after Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman had a sort of disagreement about the series' avid followers. Martin, previously, stated that doing the show is not fun anymore since viewers have been putting a lot of stress on them. A lot of fans have been pushing the possibility of Detective Sherlock and John falling in love with each other due to their close relationship. The 47-year-old English actor stated that doing Sherlock Season 5 would be unfair, especially if viewers would continue forcing things to happen.

Benedict Cumberbatch, however, disagreed with Martin's statement. The Doctor Strange actor said that fans are among the primary reasons why a show keeps on going on. "I didn't engage with it that much," the 42-year-old English star stated of the viewer phenomenon his co-star described. "I'm very grateful for the support, but that's about it." Benedict even reiterated his interest to return for Sherlock Season 5.

Another reason why the BBC could not announce Sherlock Season 5 yet is because of the showrunners' hectic schedule. Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat are, currently, working on a series called Dracula and they cannot hit two birds with one stone right now. Despite this, the pair hinted there is a huge possibility that the series would be back in the future.

Meanwhile, other rumors suggested that the alleged troubles on the marriage of Benedict Cumberbatch and wife, Sofia Hunter, could affect the fate of Sherlock Season 5. It is being claimed that the pair could split soon since the actor has been very busy with his work, leaving lesser time for his family. If Benedict decides to fix things between him and his wife, he is rumored to give up some of his projects, which may include the forthcoming fifth installment of the famous series.

While these reports could be true, it should be noted that neither Benedict Cumberbatch nor Sofia Hunter has confirmed the alleged marital troubles that they are said to be facing right now. Hence, fans should take these unverified claims with a grain of salt until everything is proven true and correct.
