Disneyland's 2nd 'Star Wars' Ride Will Not Be Opened Until 2020
Sad news hits both Disneyland and Star Wars fans as the second attraction at the newly-opened Stars Wars: Galaxy's Edge will not be opened until 2020. After Walt Disney Co. chief executive Bob Iger promised that the Rise of the Resistance would start to operate this year, it has been moved to a later date.
Fans have to wait a little longer to experience Rise of the Resistance at Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. In an official announcement on Disney's website, it said the attraction would first open at Walt Disney World in Florida before at Disneyland in California.
"We're opening Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance Dec. 5 at Walt Disney World Resort," it said. The said date is the same day as Walt Disney's birthday. The attraction's opening day is meant to honor the Walt Disney Company founder by introducing the "most immersive and advanced" ride built in a Disney Park.
When the work gets completed at Walt Disney World, the Imagineers will then head back to Disneyland in California to open Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance on Jan. 17. According to the Los Angeles Times, Disney engineers and developers can only work and open one attraction at a time, so it is impossible for them to operate the ride concurrently.
Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge is the most massive expansion that happened in Disney Parks' history. Despite its vastness, it only has one operating ride, the Millennium Falcon: Smuggler's Run. It is an interactive simulator that makes riders feel like they are flying Han Solo's iconic spaceship.
The second ride, on the other hand, will put the visitors in the middle of an intense battle between the Resistance and the First Order. In March, Iger called Ride of the Resistance as the "most technologically advanced and immersive attraction" that the park has ever have, per SFGate.
Upon taking the ride, guests will be instantly taken to the world of the Resistance. They will then pass through queues with walls painted like aging rock caverns and hear beeping droids echo throughout the hallway.
The screens will grow as Resistance fighter gets targeted on a Star Wars galaxy map. But as the riders file into the Ready Room or secret hideout, an animatronic BB-8 and digital version of Rey will emerge to recruit them to fight the First Order.
From here, 50 riders will be escorted into the transport ship's cockpit one at a time. The floor will then shift and quiver when it takes flight. After that, they will begin a new journey as the Resistance fighters will face the First Oder and get surrounded by Star Destroyers.
Riders will then get escorted out of their ship. They will be separated into smaller groups and thrown into a cell for questioning, the same room where Kylo Ren questioned Poe Dameron in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. From the looks of it, Ride of the Resistance is the ultimate ride for the Star Wars fanatics to experience its epic space-operatic world.
