Samsung's Next Generation RAM Is Designed To Accommodate AI and 5G Technology
Earlier this week, the South Korean tech and electronics giant announced that it is to mass-produce its next generation RAM. The upcoming RAM will be equipped in the premium smartphones of Samsung but will not be the chip that we will find in the Samsung Galaxy Note 10. The next generation chip is designed to accommodate AI and 5G technology.
Samsung shared on its website that it is starting the production of its 12GB LPDDR5 mobile DRAM, the company's next-generation RAM for its smartphones. This is the first of its kind chip in the smartphone industry and is expected to be on the upcoming smartphones of the company but not in Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10 Plus.
The Samsung next-generation RAM is expected to be on the smartphones that the company will release early next year. According to Samsung, the 12GB LPDDR5 mobile DRAM is optimized to enable AI and 5G technology and features of upcoming smartphones. The chip is built on the second-generation 10nm class process.
Samsung's Jung-bae Lee shared that they are thrilled to support the launch of its 5G flagship smartphone(s) that will be available to their customers all over the world. Additionally, the new 12GB LPDDR5 mobile DRAM will provide UHD video recording and will enable manufacturers to integrate more battery life on its smartphones. According to the South Korean tech titan, the Samsung next-generation RAM is power efficient.
In other words, future smartphones from Samsung will be capable of machine learning and will fully utilize the AI and 5G features of the DRAM while extending its battery life. Aside from that, Samsung also revealed that it is currently working on a 16 GB LPDDR5 mobile DRAM in the coming year to establish the company's competitive advantage in the international memory industry.

The Samsung next-generation RAM or the 12GB LPDDR5 mobile DRAM is estimated to be 1.3 times much faster than the mobile memory utilized by the majority of the premium smartphones available or soon to be available in the market today. This means that it has the capability to transfer 44GB of data in just one second. But, do not expect to see any smartphone with 12GB LPDDR5 mobile DRAM anytime this year.
The Samsung next-generation RAM or the 12GB LPDDR5 mobile DRAM will be released at the opportune time where 5G infrastructure is rising in various places. Tech analysts predict that 5G-capable flagship devices will be the trend in 2020.
