Song Joong Ki Faces Another Challenge Following Song Hye Kyo Divorce; 'Arthdal Chronicles' Rating Reportedly Fell Headlong
Many fans are still in shock even after Song Joong Ki, and Song Hye Kyo's divorce was confirmed. The Descendants of the Sun actor surprised fans when he announced that he filed for divorce from his real-life partner last month almost two years since they tied the knot.
Initially, Song Joong Ki did not reveal the main reason behind his decision to split from Song Hye Kyo. Instead, he asked fans, thru his lawyer, to understand his choice to take legal steps for their separation. He even hoped to end things with his then-wife harmoniously.
"I ask for your understanding in regards to the fact that it is difficult to discuss the details of my personal life, and I will recover from my current wounds and do my utmost as an actor to repay you through great productions in the future," Song Joong Ki stated. The talent agency of Song Hye Kyo, then, responded and said, "We find it unfortunate that we are greeting you with unhappy news. After careful consideration, actress Song Hye Kyo and her husband are taking the first steps toward a divorce."
The United Artists Agency revealed, in the same statement, that irreconcilable personality differences were the main reason behind their decision to divorce. It claimed that Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo were not able to overcome these differences and were forced to take the first steps toward a split.
While Song Joong Ki is a single man again, recent reports suggested that he is still not free from challenges. It was revealed that his current series, Arthdal Chronicles, has suffered a lot since the news about his divorce from Song Hye Kyo broke. It was said that ratings plummeted significantly after the announcement.
Because of this, production companies are said to be considering including a so-called "divorce clause" in upcoming contracts with married stars. Some media outlets based in South Korea claimed that artists who caused controversies due to divorce while a series airs would be paying three times their contract fee as a penalty. It was created following the divorce of Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo.
Neither Song Joong Ki nor Song Hye Kyo has commented on this recent development in the local entertainment industry. However, it seems like the former pair is now ready to move on from each other.
Joong Ki is confirmed to be starring in a new thriller movie titled Bogota. At the moment, the 33-year-old Hallyu superstar is working on a sci-fi film called Lightning Ship. The 37-year-old actress, on the other hand, was quoted to be taking a break from the limelight until the end of the year to focus on herself.
