Is Madison Clark (played by Kim Dickens) still alive in Fear the Walking Dead season 5? This might be what the writers want to tell viewers as the last two episodes hinted the mother of Alice (played Alycia Debnam-Carey) might not have died after her heroic sacrifice.  Could Dickens come back to the series?

In Fear the Walking Dead season 5 episode 8, titled "Is Anybody Out There" and episode 9 "Channel 4," Alicia spotted peculiar signs on the trees. Written on the trunk were the words, "If you're reading this, it means you're still here," which made Alicia utter that her mom would have appreciated these messages.

So, Alicia began to make it her goal to figure out who wrote on the trees. Now, fans think that Fear the Walking Dead season 5 is setting up Alicia to reunite with her mom.

But, such a reunion should bring up a lot of questions, especially with the way Madison died. She sacrificed herself and got burned along with the walkers to save her family and the rest of the group. Viewers never saw Madison's dead body in Fear the Walking Dead season 4. Thus, the possibility for her character's return seems always open.

However, Dickens said, in an interview, with MovieWeb that her character on Fear the Walking Dead is truly gone. Madison was one of the original characters of the show until the showrunners decided to change the direction of the series.

"I can't imagine they would want to revisit Madison, but she was a great character," Dickens said of her potential return.

Since Dickens' unexpected departure from the series, Fear the Walking Dead season 5 has indeed become an entirely different series. Showrunners Andrew Chambliss and Ian Goldberg said that the revamp was intentional.

"We are constantly striving to change what Fear is and reinvent it," Chambliss told the panel at the recent Comic-Con. "So just as soon as everyone thinks they've figured out what we're doing, we change things up, and that's going to continue through season five. There'll be a big change at the end of season 5."

Some of the fans, however, think that Alicia may be written off the series in the finale. Or, the person writing the messages is a new love interest after the casting announcement of Holly Curran.

Fear the Walking Dead season 5 airs on AMC. The show is expected to culminate its current season by the end of September 2019.
