Harry Maguire Rejected £278,000-A-Week Paycheck From Manchester City For This Reason
New Manchester United boy Harry Maguire recently turned down an offer from Manchester City. The offer is a staggering amount of £278,000 per week pay. Many were amazed at the football player's decision, but his reason is very simple.
The 26 years old player left Leicester City last summer and moved to Manchester United for an £80 million contract. This is a world-record amount being offered to a defender. City's Pep Guardiola revealed that they are very interested with Harry Maguire after his move to the Theatre of Dreams and gave positive words to Manchester United for landing the English defender on its team. Harry turned down Man City's £278,000 per week offer to fulfill his dream of playing for the Old Trafford.
According to Daily Star, Harry Maguire has a straight choice between the two teams but chose Manchester United. It seems that money is not a motivation in Harry's decision despite the staggering offer of City. He took Manchester United's offer of roughly £180,000 per week, which is almost £100,000 less than the City's offer, but he is now being eyed to be United's next team captain.
The Englishman had already decided to be with United, which he supported since he was a boy and inked the deal. Harry Maguire signed a six years contract at Manchester United. The move was a massive blow to Pep Guardiola and his team who earlier said that they were not willing to see Leicester's valuation. Guardiola also admitted that they wanted to sign Harry Maguire but could not afford him, after City's Community Shield win over Liverpool recently.
Harry Maguire trained three times with his new squad at United before they took home victory during their match against Chelsea last weekend. He is anticipated to start next Monday along with Victor Lindelof when Manchester United faces the Wolves at Molineux. Maguire's no non-sense approach aided United to maintain their first clean slate since February.
Harry Maguire's performance during the opening game of the season did not go unnoticed. In fact, Ex-Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho was all praises about him. Mourinho said he is solid like a rock that can manage both sides. He added that any player could be very dangerous in any attack, but if you are aware that mistake is just hovering around, there is a chance that your confidence could be blown away which results to poor performance. Mourinho added that Lindelof and Harry Maguire could be great partners for Manchester United.
