'The Last Kingdom' Season 4 Possible Release Date, Spoilers: When Will It Arrive?
The Last Kingdom season 4 is coming on Netflix, and there are a lot of things to anticipate in the upcoming installment. The series is based on The Saxon Stories by Bernard Cornwell, and it has become one of the most popular titles in the streaming platform. But, when will the series arrive?
Netflix renewed The Last Kingdom season 4 in December 2018 and the company announced in April 2019 that filming has already started, and the new season will consist of 10 episodes. While the official release date has yet to be revealed, the series' official Instagram page invites fans to "join Uhtred next year," hinting the upcoming installment is scheduled in 2020.
Alexander Dreymon, who plays lead character Uhtred of Bebbanburg, will be back in The Last Kingdom season 4. Other cast members joining Dreymon next season include Jeppe Beck Laursen (as Haesten), Ian Hart (Father Beocca), Magnus Bruun (Cnut), Joseph Millson (Aelfric), Millie Brady (Aethelflead), Toby Regbo (Aethelred), Mark Rowley (Finan), Emily Cox (Brida), Eliza Butterworth (Aelswith), and Timothy Innes (King Edward).
It was also announced there would be new faces in the fourth season, with Netflix confirming Stephanie Martini will play the new role of Eadith - Aethelred's new love conquest. Also, Aethelred will have a new right-hand man as well, with Jamie Blackley playing the role of Eardwulf.
The Pagan Lord will be the next book in the series which jumps ahead by a decade. So, if ever Netflix will stick to this timeline, then The Last Kingdom season 4 will introduce other new characters - including Uhtred's children by Gisela, who are all grown up in the book.
Carnival Films provided the official synopsis of the new installment, revealing that the new alliances between the kingdoms were fractured after the death of Alfred. Uhtred, on the other hand, thinks that the right time has come to challenge his uncle Aelfric and he's going to take back his ancestral home, Bebbanburg.
But, his twisted fate will lead him into different directions, and Uhtred will soon realize his destiny was tied to Alfred's dream of a united land. This, as well as his feelings for Aethelflaed, drives him back to the politics, but a war could break out.
The Last Kingdom season 4 hasn't unveiled its trailer, but viewers can still watch the three seasons of the series on Netflix. BBC America originally produced the show and co-produced by Netflix, but the streaming giant picked up the entire production as of season 3 a became a Netflix Original.
