Bobby Duncan Turned Down Man Utd Before Moving To Fiorentina From Liverpool: Here's Why
Before signing for Fiorentina, Bobby Duncan had the chance to join Manchester United, but the youngster rejected the offer because "he did not want to betray Liverpool," reports claim.
Duncan, the cousin of Reds star Steven Gerrard, has moved to Italian club Fiorentino for £1.8million following claims of bullying at Anfield. According to Italian agent Vincenzo Morabito, who helped secure Duncan's move, the teenager turned down United and Lazio before an agreement was made with Fiorentina.
"It all started in April. Saif Rubie [Duncan's agent] contacted me and we set to work to find new accommodation for Bobby," Morabito told Sportsmail.
"The boy did not want to betray Liverpool and said no to Manchester United who insisted so much with him. He could have gone to Lazio but relations with Liverpool are very bad and nothing was done."
The 18-year-old has made a choice to leave Liverpool citing that the English club was "damaging his mental health." In Italy, Morabito believes that Duncan will flourish and may follow in the footsteps of Paul Pogba.
Duncan has made waves since leaving Liverpool, with his agent claiming that the teenager was being bullied at Premier League club. His contract with Fiorentina was sealed following a public spat between his agent and Liverpool star Jamie Carragher.
Duncan's departure has caused a commotion among fans, but he still took the time to thank Liverpool via Twitter:
Over the line! Really happy to sign for @ACFFiorentina, and even more excited to get started! Can't wait to play in front of all the fans and experience the Italian culture. Thanks to all the fans for the messages!! #ForzaViola pic.twitter.com/4EeiHUCBxa — Bobby Duncan (@bobbyduncan999) September 3, 2019
This revelation may go some way to patching things up between Duncan and the Liverpool fans, who were left disappointed with his conduct in the lead-up to his exit. There are even fans claiming that the bullying incident is a made-up story concocted by his agent in order to get Reds supporters back on his side.
Duncan still thanked the club's coaches, players, and staff and said that he holds "special memories" with the club, and some fans commended the teen for making the move but not with the rivals of Liverpool.
The now Fiorentina player clearly has an incredible natural ability in him, and his supporters are ready to see his improvement with his new club.
