'Mixed-ish' Premiere Date, Spoilers: Spin-Off To Kick Off With Mariah Carey's 'In The Mix' Track
Dr. Rainbow "Bow" Johnson will star in another Black-ish-related show this fall. And the newly added spin-off titled, Mixed-ish, will serve as a prequel to the original series.
Tracee Ellis Ross, who plays the role of Rainbow "Bow", is one of the executive producers of the spin-off material. And as it happens, it will focus on her character's childhood years. So, the fans and viewers will be taken back to her youthful years in the 80s.
Ross will be the narrator of the show. And the younger version of "Bow" will be played by Arrica Himmel. It will also star Tika Sumpter, Mark-Paul Gosselaar, and Gary Cole.
As for the premise and plot of Mixed-ish, it will center on the young Jackson family and how they will manage their new community as they move from a hippie commune to the suburbs. It has been hinted that they will also try to blend in as no one sees them as either black or white.
In an interview with TV Insider, Tracee Ellis Ross shared that this subject has never been deeply touched even in the course of Black-ish. So, this is expected to be pretty interesting considering that this is also an essential issue in recent times.
Karen Gist, who is also an executive producer, added to the statements that Mixed-ish will also feature most of the prominent 80s' headlines. And these include the Challenger explosion and "drugs." And while these subjects may be too heavy for a show like this, they tried to incorporate them in a "funny" manner.
With these points at hand, many fans, especially the loyal fanbase of Black-ish and Grown-ish, are now looking forward to the premiere of Mixed-ish. And many are convinced that this is yet another successful material to the franchise.
According to Oprah Magazine, all of these revelations and hints have made the upcoming show even more interesting and intriguing. So when they revealed that Mariah Carey is the one who wrote and produced In The Mix, the theme song of the show, a lot of people are much more hyped.
It has been also widely discussed that Mariah Carey, who is biracial as well, have largely made known her interest toward the show. And as per the show's bosses, they are looking forward in including her as their future guest star in one or some of the episodes.
Mixed-ish will premiere on September 24, on ABC. And it will be followed by the premiere of Black-ish Season 6.
